LOCAL HAPPENINGS - APRIL 2025

Just this past Saturday, I had occasion to be on the North Fort Myers Pier, just below the Tamiami Trail Bridge. I saw a huge sailing class going on with lots of young people. It was encouraging to see them attempt to navigate all of the details needed to get the small boats in the water and get them moving in the direction they wished to go. What really struck me was a particular seasoned woman who was instructing a young girl named Sophia.

Because of the great acoustics at this location, we were able to carry on a conversation while she was in her inflatable boat. To my surprise, the entire outing was for a local foundation: The Edison Sailing Center. This foundation focuses on teaching youths confidence skills, teamwork, and character building through sailing. I learned that many of them have never been in the water before, although being surrounded by it in this area.

So, true to my promise to this patient instructor, I am providing a link to the foundation here on my site. I hope that those who have young ones, such as your grandchildren, etc., will look into the various programs they have. Happy sailing! https://www.edisonsailingcenter.org/
